Last week we bought and delivered about 50 Arabic-English dictionaries and language books for studying english to various projects in Thessoniliki. We would not have been able to do that without the amazing efforts of Vinyl Fantasy and Gays 4 Refugees which fundraised for the whole thing - a massive thank you to everyone who contributed!.

Last week a pallet arrived with about 2000 books donated by the wonderful Better World Books UK. The boxes have been divided between nine library and school projects in various refugee camps around Thessoniliki, Greece. This would not have been possible without the marvelous support of Read to Grow foundation, Vinyl Fantasy and Akkeri Aid support. A massive thank you to all of you!
The incredible team at 'Gays for Refugees' raised 427 euros for 'Books 4 Refugees' last week. I am eternally grateful and humbled by the support and help that is coming from people and organisation to support us making the lives of those unfortunate refugees that are forced to stay in tents during a Greek winter, a little better. With a delivery of about 2000 English books arriving this week in Greece to support about 8 ongoing school and library projects in the refugee camps, this money will be spent on Arabic-English educational material and dictionaries to distribute to relevant projects.

One of the amazing things that happen when the books arrived and we started to set up the library was that people started to approach me with their other talents and hobbies. Here we have tables and benches that were built by a few of the carpenters in the camp. A 22 year old girl asked shyly if she could show me something which turned out to be these stunning drawings she had been playing with. Women and men approach me with their knitting and I learned that the camp is full of tailors. A young friend in the camp showed me poems and short stories he had been working on and is translating them from Arabic to English with the help of google translate.
It brings such sadness to my heart to know that these gifted and hard working everyday people are forced to live in the shadows, unwelcome by countries that could definitely benefit and learn from their generosity, humility and authenticity. I hope to be able to share the tent that was built for the community centre and library with another organization who is trying to get a permission to being sewing machines to the camp.
